Tik Tok Marketing

Out of all of the social media platforms I have discussed on this blog, Tik Tok is the newest member on the block being created in 2018. The app was originally released in 2016 by Chinese company ByteDance, but after a merger with the American company Music.ly, it became available as Tik Tok worldwide. The app immediately grew to be one of the most popular platforms in the world with many drawing comparisons to platforms like Vine. What makes Tik Tok different from Vine, is the availability to make long form content such as comedy sketches, dance videos, and much more. Since Tik Tok's inception, countless other platforms have tried to imitate this feature such as Snapchat's spotlight, or Instagram's reels. None have been able to capture what makes Tik Tok so unique as even though it is not the most popular platform in terms of raw numbers, it does have the number one usage rate at 34 hours a month.

When Tik Tok was first introduced, I was certainly not an early adaptor as I refused to get the app for the first few years. This was due to many people getting addicted to it and spending far too much time on the app. Although I made a good stand, I gave in a couple years ago and have loved the app ever since, maybe a little too much. Tik Tok makes it very easy to get stuck scrolling for hours, leading to some (not me) abandoning their real responsibilities. Because of Tik Tok's high usage rate, it is a great place for influencers and companies alike to market themselves.

Tik Tok is especially great for reaching the newer generations in terms of marketability. Companies that advertise with Tik Tok receive around a 9% engagement rate, which exceeds all other platforms. I have talked about how video marketing is the new emerging trend in past blog posts, and this especially applies here as Tik Tok allows for full creative freedom for people who want to grow their brand. This is shown in a study done where 72% of people find Tik Tok advertisements inspiring, also the highest among all platforms. This directly leads to more people engaging with the post and becoming a potential customer. Overall, Tik Tok is a great, new platform that allows anyone to create, post, and interact with millions of people.
