Thanksgiving: An Underrated Holiday
This week I would like to talk about an underrated holiday which is Thanksgiving. Although not my favorite holiday, I feel as if Thanksgiving gets a lot of hate for no real reason. One of the main gripes about Thanksgiving is that Turkey is not good. I will be the first to disagree as turkey makes for a great meal, as long as you make it right. My personal favorite kind of turkey is when my dad smokes it as it locks in all the juices to prevent it from drying out and adds a ton of flavor. But to most people who do not enjoy turkey, there are plenty of side dishes that make up for it. Some of my favorites being sweet potato casserole, rolls, and some pumpkin pie for desert of course. In the end, Thanksgiving is an excuse to eat until your full and then go back for more without anyone batting an eye.
In my family, Thanksgiving is an important holiday that involves two things, family and football. We make it our goal to at least spend Thanksgiving with our intermediate family which in my case, is only my uncle and two cousins. We have a relatively small family which I enjoy when it comes to family functions as I find large family gatherings quite overwhelming. Even with a small family, we manage to make far too much food, which makes for great leftovers. This leads me into my next family activity, watching football.
Thanksgiving marks the only day of the year with multiple NFL games on throughout a Thursday. This makes for all day entertainment while you are cooking, eating, and eventually eating leftovers. Now the NFL games are great, but it is all just an appetizer for the main course on Saturday, Ohio State vs Michigan. As a huge Ohio State household, this game is like a national holiday, it is a game on the calendar that everyone circles, no matter if you are a fan of either team. It is widely known as one of the greatest rivalries in sports, drawing in millions of viewers per year. I cannot wait for this game and hopefully my next blog is a happy one.

I agree that Thanksgiving is an underrated holiday! It's just a day full of food, family and football, so what's not to love? As someone who has a really big family on both my mom and dad's side, I guess it can get a little overwhelming at times, but it's mainly fun! I love having a big family and I look forward to seeing them whenever I can!
ReplyDeleteI think Thanksgiving is absolutely amazing, I mean who doesn't love chowing down on the best kinds of food while relaxing with the family? I can't wait to crack a cold one with my grandfather and dad and watch the Lions game on Thanksgiving for traditional reasons.
