Halloweekend Fun

As the title entails, this blog will be about my Halloweekend experience here in Ada, Ohio. First of all, I think at this time of year, Ohio Northern's campus looks incredibly beautiful. The past couple weekends, the fall foliage of our campus has really come through, allowing the true beauty of our campus to truly shine. And of course, this time of year also brings one of my favorite holidays, Halloween. I have already talked about in my previous blog about how serious my family and I took Halloween as a kid, so I don't need to tell you about my excitement that Halloween gives me every year. Apart from dressing up and going out, I also got to spend time carving pumpkins, which I had not done in a very long time.

The first night of Logan and I's weekend, we elected to carve pumpkins and make seeds thereafter. We had not carved pumpkins in many years, so we had forgotten how long of a process it was. First you must  dig in and grab all of the pumpkin guts and seeds out, which is not a pleasant feeling as it is very cold and slimy feeling. After the pumpkins were cleaned out, we then had to sort through and get all of the seeds going, which was a tedious and time-consuming task, but well worth it. The seeds turned out great, with one batch being just salt, and the other cinnamon sugar. Now that we had a snack, it was time to get to carving. I went for the scary face look and Logan opted for the more girly pumpkin with smile and hearts for eyes. For not having done it in a long time, I would say we did a pretty solid job. After putting some lit candles in them and turning the lights off, we could truly appreciate our work.

The next day started out with a great win by my Ohio State Buckeyes over Penn State, so my day was off to a great start. As it approached the evening hours, more people started to change their street clothes for costumes, so we decided it was time. As mentioned in a previous blog, Logan was going as a 'cougar', and I the cougar hunter, outfitted in camouflage overalls. After getting some good pictures it was time to get our Halloweekend truly started. We then headed in town for the first Halloween party at the newly opened Regal Beagle. There was a best costume prize for anyone who attended, I do not know who ended up winning, but I do know it was not us. Although we did not win, we still had an incredible time hanging out with all our friends which is what it is all about.
