College Football Crazies
This season of college football is sure to go down in the history books as one of the craziest seasons ever. First of all, this is the inaugural season of the 12-team playoff, which will make for a first of a kind postseason. I personally cannot wait for the first ever playoff, but the real question is which 12 teams will be in? The playoff is formatted in a way to give the highest four ranked conference champions a first-round bye. This only includes the power four conferences which are the Big 10, Big 12, SEC, and ACC. What I think is interesting to think about is what if the Pac-12 still existed as it has in the past. Would they simply take the four best conference champions, or would they have structured the playoff format differently? Both questions we may never know due to the fallout of what was once the fifth power conference.
The next most important question is obviously where is Ohio State going to fall in this new playoff mix? Due to losing to the first ranked team in the nation a few weeks ago, the Bucks now sit behind Oregon at number two. If the season were to play out like it should, these two teams should meet again in the Big 10 conference championship. This game will also be for the coveted first round bye, as the conference champion automatically gets that bid. I anticipate this will be a close game just like that last that saw Ohio State fall by one point. Another conference that there is an unknown winner is the SEC.
With the new conference alignment bringing Texas and Oklahoma into the SEC, it has made for a cinematic season. As it stands, Texas and Tennessee sit on top with only one loss, as teams like Alabama, Georgia, and Ole Miss all sit right behind with two losses. With the possibility of Tennessee losing to Georgia this weekend, it could make for up to 5 SEC teams with 2 losses. This is also going to make the 12-team playoff format interesting as the committee must choose who to let in. I cannot wait to see how this season plays out and look forward to seeing how the inaugural 12-team playoff plays out.

I am definitely excited for the playoffs as the new format brings lots of excitement and questions as to how it will all play out. As a Notre Dame fan I am excited and nervous as I hope we are able to retain a spot in the playoff race and make a run!
