Snapchat Marketing

Snapchat is another one of those apps that I first downloaded after getting my first phone. The app appealed to many people my age at the time as it was a new, creative way to communicate with your friends. Snapchat is a multi-use platform that gives you the ability to text, call, or snap your friends. The main function that Snapchat was built on is the ability to 'snap' a picture of whatever you want and send it directly to someone. You can also allow all your friends to see it by posting a snap to your story. What makes Snapchat unique is that time limit in which your friends can see your posts. Most stories will only stay on your profile for 24 hours and direct messages disappear after opening. Snapchat has also added many features to allow creators and businesses to reach new audiences.

When it comes to advertising by the numbers, Snapchat ads receive 1.5 times more attention over apps like Facebook and 1.3 times more over YouTube. Snapchat also boasts a massive 750 million monthly users that check the app an average of 30 times per day! This allows creators and businesses to post low-cost promotions and advertisements to a wide audience. A tool that Snapchat provides for businesses to reach new audiences is the spotlight feature. This allows people to post their stories to users outside their friends list and subscribers. I know personally I catch myself scrolling through the Snapchat discover page looking for any content that may be of interest. Over the years I have found creators that I now follow and view their stories daily.

Overall, Snapchat has evolved over the years from a simple instant messaging app to a multi-use social media platform. I think the unique abilities that Snapchat bolsters make it a very attractive platform to use for growing a personal brand or professional business. From personal experience, people in my age group have begun to use the app less, but Snapchat will always have a special place in my heart as it is still up there among my favorite social medias.

  1. I definitely agree that Snapchat was the first social media I downloaded when getting my first phone. I think the appeal of Snapchat other than the 24-hour stories is the texting functionality of it leading people to be on the app more often to connect with friends easier.
