Ohio Northern Homecoming Parade
This past weekend, Ohio Northern University held its homecoming celebration which featured alumni weekend, tailgate lunch, and parade. The campus and Village of Ada was buzzing with traffic as alumni returned and homecoming celebrations ensued. This weekend also marked the soft opening of the Regal Beagle, a small-town bar with a lot of history. With all the celebrations going on, and the weather from Hurricane Helene holding off for the most part, it made for a great weekend. As part of my social media class at ONU, we were tasked with live-tweeting a homecoming event. I chose to attend the homecoming parade as I had never been but always heard from friends how fun it was.
If I am completely honest, I was kind of nervous for the parade as I had never live-tweeted an event and had never even been to the parade before. I made sure to arrive early, as Ada Police closed North Main Street from any traffic. This was a good idea as by the time the parade started, the street was lined from Starbucks all the way past the railroad tracks. As I waited for the parade to start, a family of bees decided they did not like where I was standing, so I had to find a new location. I soon heard the drums and trumpets of the band start, and I knew it was getting close.
As the parade rolled through Ada, I was rapidly sending out tweets or "posts" as Elon Musk has changed Twitter to X. This was a new challenge as once the parade got to where I was standing, it felt to go by in an instant. I tried to send a tweet for every group that guys by such as Greek organizations, our President Melissa Baumann, and other parading vehicles. Although this project was a new challenge, I did enjoy it and thought I did a good job overall.

I agree it was a very interesting experience and I was sort of anxious to live tweet for the first time out of fear I wouldn't document the full scale of the event. Those darn wasps and bees were harassing me and my girlfriend as well in front of subway so we had to move a few times.
ReplyDeleteI can relate to the live tweeting being stressful. It was a new experience for sure. I remember realizing the Twitter changed the X when I had to create my account before my event started. I did learn a lot from the experience though. I'm glad you had fun at the parade.
