Dog House
There are many seasons currently changing in Ada, Ohio. The first, and most obvious, the weather is getting cooler, and the leaves are starting to change. Although the official end of summer does not come for another week and a half, the feeling has already started for many. For many, the season of fall begins as soon as the first football game kicks off, which in our case, both Ohio Northern and professional seasons have begun. Football is of course the second season currently changing in Ada. Early morning cookouts and tailgates have begun to spread throughout college towns in America. With the weather changing, and football season upon us, my roommates and I have begun to miss our dogs. What comes after missing your dog you may wonder, of course wanting to get your own.
Now of course all of us still get to see our pets when we travel home once or twice a semester, but this conversation has turned into adopting our own dog for the house. Is this the greatest idea in the world you may ask, probably not, but it is an idea that has not left our minds. As most great ideas do, this started on a Saturday night, and has carried on throughout the beginning of the week. Now of course we also discussed why we shouldn't get a dog, such as the cost of taking care of it, who would take the dog after college, and overall keeping it alive and well. After this conversation, the idea is still on the table, but requires a bit more planning if it is going to happen.
I know that a bunch of college kids owning a dog may sound like a bad idea for those exact reasons, but I do believe we would be the greatest bunch of dog dads. For one, every member of the house already has a dog of their own at their family homes. Secondly, we have already discussed a contract, so everyone has a dedicated responsibility with an equal budget. Lastly, and most importantly, I think it would be the coolest thing ever to have a new sixth roommate and best friend. I do not yet know if we will actually get one but hope still remains.

Get the dog!!! This hits close to home because last year my friends and I had a puppy living our house together. He was the cutest dog but looking back, I recommend an older dog. That way you won't have to deal with training it but you and your roommates can enjoy the best parts of having a dog.
ReplyDeleteYou guys should definitely go and get the dog for the house. It would be a great memory for you and your friends and the dog would have a great time as well. I would definitely say plan it out first but I think you guys should go for it!
ReplyDeleteI had this conversation with my boyfriend when he was looking at getting a dog! He ended up getting a somewhat young dog, around 1 year and a 1/2 or so, and the dog still has lots of energy. I agree with Lucie on getting an older dog if you do get one! They get over looked in most shelters because everyone wants a puppy. You should also take a look at Facebook, there are so many groups on there solely about rehoming animals, and usually the rehoming fee (if they have one) is much cheaper than a shelter. From what I've seen, they typically are all usually already trained, house trained, and up to date on all their shots! Give us an update if you do get one!:)
