A Trip Home

I have always felt that while away at school, time seems to warp faster than it does anywhere else. Sometimes I forget how long it has been since I have been home, but every time, my dog reminds me as soon as I walk in the door. Fortunately, I live just under 2 hours away so making trips home is somewhat easy to do compared to some people. This past weekend I had the opportunity to make a trip home to golf with my brother, celebrate my girlfriend Logan's birthday, and attend the Cincinnati vs Miami football game. Although it was a busy and action-packed weekend, I accomplished my goal of spending time with family and friends.

Fortunately, my light class schedule on Fridays allows me to be done with class before noon, allowing me to make a 2 p.m. tee time with my little brother. Now we were only allowed to play 9 holes as I had a dinner to get to that night but ended up being my best 9-hole score I had shot to date. I even played the joke on Logan that I was planning on staying for a whole round and possibly miss her birthday dinner, which did not go over well. Anyways, I was able to spend some time with my brother before heading out to dinner with Logan.

The restaurant for the special occasion was chosen by her best friend, and might I add she did excellent job. Some of my favorite food I have had was during a trip to New Orleans, due to the high levels of seafood and spices in the food. It was easy to say that this place was right up my alley as I ordered Cajun crab cakes and potatoes. Dinner was not the only birthday activity planned, as the next day we attended the rivalry matchup of Cincinnati and Miami football game. It was great experience as the game was close and action packed, and Logan got to see her old softball friends. It was a mutually beneficial situation as I got to watch football and she got to socialize with her college friends. Our plan after the game was to stay and experience Miami for a while, but due to the heat, we were drained and ready to head home.

Although I do love the college experience of living with friends, having freedom away from home, and going out on the weekends, it is nice to go home and see the people who got me here in the first place. I am personally very close with my brother and parents so I enjoy coming home to spend time with them when I can. It also does not hurt that I can enjoy a home cooked meal and spend time with my dogs.

  1. Time definitely seems to fly by fast here and going home is always a nice reset. Our friends that we meet here are great but there is always something about going back home and seeing our old ones!

  2. Hi Will, I definitely have to agree. Time goes by so fast and I feel like it only gets faster now that I am in my final year here. This trip back home sounds like it was a lot of fun and I am happy to hear you were able to play some good golf!

  3. I can't believe its already week five of the fall semester of my junior year at ONU... The older I get the more I realize the adults were right in saying that time moves faster as you get older. Cherishing those moments with family and making time in your schedule will always be a top priority of mine.

  4. Honestly I completely agree. I'm planning on going back home this weekend, and I'm already dreading the fact that it's going to go by so much quicker than usual. I have two little siblings who I'm excited to see though!
